LiuGong Named an Advanced Group for China's Polar Expedition

LiuGong received the Advanced Group for China Polar Expedition title, awarded by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the Ministry of Natural Resources, recognising 17 years of equipment support and technical service.

Building domestic polar equipment

Facing the long reliance on imported polar equipment, LiuGong took it as its mission to localise polar engineering equipment, supplying 41 machines across 8 categories that landed in Antarctica. For the special conditions, it carried out custom attachment modification and technical upgrades, completing material transfer, levelling, breaking and drilling for infrastructure, and supporting the Qinling Station and other projects with zero-fault operation.

Laboratories and standards

In 2018, the industry's first and only Chinese polar research construction-equipment laboratory was established at LiuGong's global R&D center, and in 2022 LiuGong built a polar engineering technology innovation center with the Polar Research Institute of China. It has issued several group standards, including the test method for cold starting of loaded machinery under polar conditions.

People for the poles

Since first sending mechanics on polar expeditions in 2008, LiuGong has built a selection and training mechanism, organising 43 technical experts across 17 groups to the Arctic and Antarctic, and has run a national operator skills competition to supply the polar logistics teams.

In over 40 years of Chinese polar research, LiuGong's 17 years of persistence have built a domestic-equipment foundation for the pole. As the first company to sign a strategic agreement with the Polar Research Institute of China, it will keep focusing on upgrading polar equipment and services for future expeditions.
